Stories about the doors between worlds — the ones made of wings, the ones made of memory, and the small ones a child walks through every day.

"Not falling, but folding — as though reality were a great dark wing closing once around her and opening again somewhere else entirely." — from the opening of Book One

Books

Three ongoing projects, three very different doors.

Book One — in progress

Kaelmoor

Book One of the Kaelmoor series

Lyria never asked to see the Human Gate — the seam in the world where owls fly with wings too dark to be feathers, and something on the other side has been watching hers hold. When Micah is taken through it, she has no choice but to follow, into a country ruled by things that were never meant to want a human heart as badly as they do.

Remembering Bubby

Two souls. One bond. Endless lifetimes.

I am not a scientist. I am not a scholar of the soul. I am a mother who spent years watching her son know things he had no way of knowing, until I had no choice but to go looking for an explanation big enough to hold what I was seeing. This is the story of a bond that seems to have been humming at the same frequency for far longer than either of us has been alive to hear it — and what it took to finally set it free.

Little Rose Adventures

A picture-book collection — one story for every emotion a child carries

Little Rose is growing into a full collection, each book built around a single feeling a child might not yet have words for. Two are here now, with more on the way.

Little Rose and the Mighty Little Mouse cover

Little Rose and the Mighty Little Mouse

Little Rose is going somewhere new — and she isn't sure she feels brave enough. When she meets the tiniest, most nervous mouse she's ever seen, the two of them discover that you don't have to be brave all at once. You just have to take one tiny step. Together.

Little Rose and the Kind Fox cover

Little Rose and the Kind Fox

Little Rose had always heard that foxes couldn't be trusted. But when she watches a fox quietly helping the animals of the forest — one small kindness at a time — she learns that the stories we're told aren't always the whole truth. A gentle story about looking past first impressions and choosing kindness for yourself.

About

Adeline Velasquez

Adeline Velasquez was born in Brooklyn, raised in Puerto Rico, and found her way back to Brooklyn before finally settling in Scotia, New York, where she writes today.

Her work moves between very different kinds of doors: the wing-shadowed seam of Kaelmoor, where a girl learns what it costs to cross between worlds; the small, fierce hearts of the Little Rose Adventures, a picture-book collection she's building one emotion at a time; and the quiet, real house of Remembering Bubby, where she set down what she lived and still doesn't fully understand — a bond with her son that felt older than either of their lifetimes.

She is currently finishing Kaelmoor and continuing to grow the Little Rose collection.
